The outdoor sensors use a CR123 battery. Some manufacturers call the CR123 but they are the exact same battery. We expect battery life to last 3-6 months. If you want to get the most out of your battery life, here are some tips:
- Install the outdoor sensor with the best possible line of sight to the indoor sensor. The outdoor sensor shares data through the indoor sensor, and keeping the sensors close to each other and with a good line of sight, will help keep the battery consumption to a minimum.
- Install the outdoor sensor in a quiet area. Avoid placing it near a pool pump, air conditioning unit, flag/wind chime or any plants that would brush against the sensor. The sensor is using much less battery when monitoring a quiet area. Check out the video on where to install your sensor for some great examples.
- Install the sensor in the shade. Batteries drain faster when subjected to big swings in temperature. Keeping the sensor shaded from the sun will help avoid any drastic swings in battery power consumption.
These batteries can be purchased online from Amazon, or at most hardware stores like Lowe's and Home Depot. Purchasing several batteries at a time will reduce the price per battery and ensure that you have some on hand when you need them in the future!
