The NoiseAware outdoor sensor runs on CR-123a lithium batteries. Some manufacturers call the CR123 but they are the exact same battery. We expect battery life to last 3-6 months. If you want to get the most out of your battery life, here are some tips:
- Install the outdoor sensor with the best possible line of sight to the indoor sensor. The outdoor sensor shares data through the indoor sensor, and keeping the sensors close to each other and with a good line of sight, will help keep the battery consumption to a minimum.
- Install the outdoor sensor in a quiet area. Avoid placing it near a pool pump, air conditioning unit, flag/wind chime or any plants that would brush against the sensor. The sensor is using much less battery when monitoring a quiet area. Check out the video on where to install your sensor for some great examples.
- Install the sensor in the shade. Batteries drain faster when subjected to big swings in temperature. Keeping the sensor shaded from the sun will help avoid any drastic swings in battery power consumption.
CR-123a batteries are sold in most convenience stores, big box stores and hardware stores. They are available on amazon, and are significantly cheaper if you buy in bulk.
